Dead Sea Scrolls Presentation

What do you really know about the Dead Sea Scrolls? Not that much, right? They were found in the caves pictured here.
Are you interested in learning more? In addition to the current display about the scrolls at the Milwaukee Public Museum, you have another opportunity to hear about them in Waukesha.
Dr. Mark Braun, Professor of Theology at Wisconsin Lutheran College, will speak about the Dead Sea Scrolls later this month. Learn more....
Thursday Lenten Services Scheduled at Citizens Bank
Living Word's midweek Lenten services will be held on Thursdays, starting February 18, at Citizens Bank in Waukesha. Services begin at 6:30 P.M. and last 45 minutes to an hour.
Citizens Bank is located on the southeast corner of Hwy. 59 and Center Rd. in south central Waukesha. The actual mailing address is 2109 Corporate Drive.
Services are being conducted on Thursdays instead of the traditional Wednesdays this year because the space at the bank was already reserved for other purposes on those days.

Learning, Living, and Sharing God's Word
We are all about God's Word - first learning it, then living it, and also sharing it. God's Word is all about Jesus. Jesus is all about us and you. Yes, really. Give us a chance to explain. Browse these pages to see what we're about in more detail. Contact us if you have questions or just want to talk. That's one of the ways we love to share.
Living Word Lutheran Church, located in Waukesha, Wisconsin, is a congregation of about 175 Christians primarily seeking people who do not yet know of their need for Jesus. Living Word is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).

Until we have a facility of our own, we meet weekly at Rose Glen Elementary School (map) to worship God who is our Creator and Savior.
Feel free to contact Pastor John Borgwardt if you have questions about Living Word and our ministry in southwest Waukesha.
Living Word Purchases More Land

On Wednesday, March 25, 2009, Living Word closed on the purchase of an additional 3.7 acres adjacent to (south and west of) our original 3.3 acres of land across the road from Waukesha West High School. The total area (approximately) is shown shaded in red in the picture at the left.
During the next several months, various committees will be active in making plans for the design and construction of the building or buildings to be erected at the site and in gathering funds needed to pay for and maintain the facility.
Living Word will use these facilities to further community outreach and to continue to implement the stated mission of sharing God's Word especially with those who have yet to hear about it.
More information will be published here in the coming months as work on this project progresses.
If you have specific questions about the purchase or future plans, please contact Pastor John Borgwardt.
Journey to Jerusalem
I recently heard a story of a woman and her husband of 30 years who loved the outdoors and liked to keep to themselves, so they bought the most isolated piece of land in South America they could find. It was so isolated, in fact, that the only way to get to it was over a rickety old bridge spanning a chasm with a drop of several hundred feet. But they were okay with that because they had everything they needed and they didn't want visitors anyway. The husband just had to go to a remote mountain village once a month to get supplies. They lived there in peace for several years.
But one fateful day the husband began his once-a-month journey and said goodbye to his wife. She knew she wouldn't see him for four days. But when almost a week passed and he hadn't returned, she feared the worst. Three days later she saw some visitors from the village come across the rickety old bridge, and now her fears were confirmed. They said that her husband never showed up in town, so they came out to see if they were OK. They also noticed a few rungs broken on the wooden bridge, and they concluded that her husband had probably fallen to his death. The woman was so distraught and horror-stricken that she refused to walk over the bridge ever again, even though the villagers did everything they could to convince her to come and live with them, assuring her they would take her by the hand and make sure she didn't fall. But it was no use -- she feared that bridge more than anything, so she stayed where she was. Completely isolated, completely alone, and cared for by villagers who now came to bring her supplies once a month, she eventually died of old age, not having been able to face her fears.
How tragic for that woman! Even though the villagers were ready to take her by the hand to get her past her fears and lead her to a much better life, she chose not to go. I think we can learn a lesson here ourselves. Sometimes the Lord has to take you through some very difficult times and situations, he has to lead you by the hand through them, so you can see the blessing he has in store for you on the other side.more...
